'Daring to Fly' is the original concept of Colin and Jo Woolf. The book was designed by Colin, and Jo has written the text. Its purpose is to illustrate Colin's development as an artist, and to describe the reasons and inspiration behind his work. The book contains a brief but enlightening biographical section, with some interesting images from Colin's early years, followed by individual chapters relating to different habitats and wildlife: for example Mountains and Moorland, Sea and Shore, with a special section on Woodcock and also a section on Colin's technique, with tips and images in progress. Most paintings are given a whole page to themselves, and accompanying each image is a brief description of its inspiration, anecdotal history, and particular challenges in technique.
The book measures 345 mm x 245 mm, and contains 178 pages with more than 260 images (sketches, photographs and paintings): many of which, have never been seen before.
Here are a few words from "David Cromack (Editor, Bird Illustrated magazine). With more than 260 images to savour, you can enjoy both the diversity of his subject matter and his willingness to explore new techniques. Colin has a very loyal following and many of his regular patrons will be overjoyed to add this celebration of his life's work to their collection. I'm equally sure the book will win him an army of new admirers."
